Moving in the Heat with Good Stuff Moving

The last few days have been scorchers for Minnesota. Each day the temperature has been in the upper 90s with the heat index reaching into the 110s. This hot weather is incredibly tough for everyone, and especially for movers and moving companies like Good Stuff Moving.

So what does Good Stuff Moving do to help beat the heat? Here are a few tips for beating the heat that we’ve picked up over the years:

Schedule moves in the morning and the evening. This is one of the easiest yet toughest things to do. Often multiple moves will get scheduled on the same day, so we are working from early in the morning through the evening. Yet when the hottest hours of the day are from 11 am to 3 pm, trying to schedule moves in the early mornings and late afternoons is easier on the movers and sometimes easier on the clients as well, as they may be relocating homes within their own city and still need to go into work for the day.

Drink plenty of water. Common advice, yes? There is a reason why it’s so common: most people fail to drink enough water. Movers, like everyone else, automatically reach for the coffee and soda when we are thirsty, and yet when moving in the heat, you need as much pure fluid as you can get. Drinking plenty of water will keep you hydrated as well as regulate your body temperature. It also doesn’t hurt to drink some Gatorade or other electrolyte drinks from time to time. Heat stroke is no laughing matter, and you don’t want your movers to pass out while hauling your couch down the stairs.

Rest often. It’s tough. Often movers are on a schedule, and families and businesses want their homes and offices relocated quickly. A good moving company manager will know that in the hot summer months, his or her movers will need some additional time. Heat cramps are often caused by drinking water followed by immediate physical activity. The best cure for heat cramps is frequent rest and frequent hydration. Good Stuff Moving will always honor it’s moving times and quotes, but some moves may take longer than others, and we will inform you of this up front.
