November Festivals and Fun in the Twin Cities

The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area has some of the most diverse and interesting activities within a few minute car ride.  Moving to or living in the area, no matter what the time of year, brings lots of options for fun.

There are activities and opportunities for families, teens and adults.  Check out a few of the opportunities that peaked our interests.

Creepy, crawly fun this weekend

Tarantulas: Alive and Up Close at Como Zoo through November 3rd.

Tarantual exhibit at Como Zoo

There is a lot to learn and appreciate by these little guys. Several of the world’s 900 known species of tarantulas are on display.  There is even a bird eating tarantula to see! Tarantulas are on display in the Exhibit Gallery, inside the Visitor Center.

Save the date(s) for Holidazzle – this will be the last year for this series of parades

Since 1992, hundreds of thousands of people bundle up each year, against the cold and line the streets of downtown Minneapolis to watch the spectacular parade with thousands upon thousands of lights – this will be the last year for this tradition as organizers are planning to replace the activity for  the 2014 festivities.  Plan to see Santa, magical floats, music and lots and lots of dazzle.

Holidazzle parades can be seen Friday and Saturday evenings at 6:30 pm in downtown Minneapolis, starting November 29th and ending on December 21st.  You’ll want to get a spot on Nicollet Mall from 12th Street to 4th Street.  Make sure to dress warm and bring a chair.

An ancient civilization with mysteries yet to be revealed

Science Museum of Minnesota Mayan Exhibit

If inside fun is more your speed, you have until January 5th to catch the Mystery of the Maya at the Science Museum of Minnesota.  Exhibits and a film showing in the Omnitheater bring the ancient culture to life.  There is lots to see and do – visit a tomb, build arches, view hundreds of artifacts and translate your birthday into a Mayan glyph.

Perhaps you’d like to be a member of the ’brew crew’

Another indoor opportunity that looks fun and caters to adults is a tour of our very own, award winning Summit Brewery.  The Summit Brewery is located in St. Paul.  The tour and samples are free but you must reserve a tour date and time.  Tours are Thursdays-Saturdays and last about 90 minutes.  Slots fill up quickly, so plan ahead.

There is no shortage of fun and interesting opportunities in our local communities.  If you are not from the local area and thinking of moving to the area, check out a  few of past blogs posts on some the local cities and what they have to offer; Moving to Minneapolis, Moving to Crystal and Moving to Edina.

Please share some of your favorite activities below.  Or, if you happen to check-out one of these activities, leave a review of your experience.  Happy fall Twin Cities residents.
